Faction and server

  • Faction is mostly theme. Both sides get the same classes, skills, gear, wings and costumes. What changes is your continent, the story's point of view and the voice language.
  • The server matters more. The faction holding more Abyss Artifacts earns more Abyss Points (Abyss Corridors). Solo players feel this most (aLuckyRO).
  • Everyone you play with and all your alts on one server and faction. Server storage only works inside one server.
  • Ended up on the weak side? Server transfers exist since 14 Oct (same faction only). See Servers and transfers.

Class

  • Every class does real damage. Tanks and healers give up a little for survival or heals.
  • Pick what's fun. If it doesn't feel right by level 20 to 22, try another. At 22 the first expedition opens and the character starts banking Odyle Energy, so a class you park there isn't wasted.
  • Solo players: Chanter and Cleric get into groups easiest. More in Choosing a class.

Your first hour

  1. Macro (K): your left-click skill usually builds mana and your right-click skill spends it. Put your rotation in one macro, in priority order: gap closer, cooldown skills, then the no-cooldown filler. Hold it while you hold left click.
  2. Keep out of the macro: long-cooldown damage buffs (wasted on trash mobs) and dodges or invulnerability. Sorcerers and Assassins die when the macro spent the dodge before a boss mechanic.
  3. Skill 2 is your benchmark. It has no cooldown and hits hard. Only slot a new skill if it beats it or you need what it does (a stun, say).
  4. Put scrolls and potions on the auto-use bar. The game gives you thousands. Use them now.
  5. Lock gold items as soon as you get them. A dismantled or sold item can be recovered only once a season.
  6. Settings: turn on the boss facing indicator (Information Display > Combat), turn off camera shake. See Settings and performance.

Getting around

  • Fly in bursts: take off, boost, fold the wings, take off again. You keep the speed and spend almost no flight energy. More wings raise flight speed and time.
  • Teleport between outposts you've found instead of flying long distances.
  • Alt+1 walks you to the next story objective.

The story walls

WhereWhat stops youHow to get past
About level 22 and 32The Ascension Gauge must reach 100%Regional (green) quests fill it fastest, then sealed dungeons and strongholds
Level 45, the Draupnir quest"Talk to Koro" is in the Abyss, which needs item level 1,000Raise item level: Level 45 to 1,400
After KoroThe Ascension Gauge againMore side content

Everything you skip on the way (regional quests, sealed dungeons, strongholds, Empyrean Traces) turns into item level later. Once you reach 45, every monster in the world scales to 45 and stops dying in one hit, so clearing side content on the way is faster.

What to upgrade while leveling

  • Belt and amulet: you keep them to the end. Belt scrolls come from strongholds, amulet scrolls from handing Empyrean Traces to the Monolith. At +10, Substance Morph moves them up a grade for free. See Gear upgrades.
  • Weapon: worth a few levels if a new one is far off.
  • Everything else: at most +5. Dismantling gives back the enhancement materials, you only lose the Kinah.
  • Skills: take your 1 or 2 main damage skills to 8 and 12 first (their specializations open there). Don't spread points evenly.
  • Stigma slots: they open as you level, up to 4. Check every few levels.
  • Daevanion board: plan a path to the gold corner nodes. Resetting costs Kinah. See Daevanion boards.

Things to save for level 45

Don't spend earlyWhy
Odyle Energy on story dungeon cubesEach cube is 20 to 40 energy and gives gear you replace within hours. Take the free end-of-dungeon reward and leave
Shugo Festival keysChests opened before 45 give low-level rewards

Dungeon manners

  • Wait until everyone is in the boss room before pulling. Players outside get locked out of the fight and the loot. This is the one rule everyone agrees on.
  • The tank starts the boss. Activate the Kibelisks before bosses so stragglers can teleport.
  • After the last boss, five sets of Odyle Energy appear, one per player. Take one.
  • If the Cleric's Resurrection is ready, wait for it before using a Spiritstone. Don't revive inside a danger zone.
  • Don't set combat power requirements higher than your own. Read the group name: "3B" means all three bosses.
  • Kill every boss: the last cube drops better loot when all bosses are dead.
  • In the open world, let someone on a quest tag a mob, and find another node if someone is already gathering.

Playing solo

AION 2 is very solo-friendly: Conquest and Transcendence work with random groups. The hard part is the 10-player raid, where random damage dealers struggle to get in. If you can't find a group, make one and set approval so you can check applicants. A few low-level alts make cheap extra storage (aLuckyRO). A Legion Hall (about 1,000,000 Kinah for 30 days) gives you crafting, merchants, storage and training dummies.

After 45

Do your 5 Duty quests every day and work toward 1,400 item level without spending energy: Daily and weekly routine and Level 45 to 1,400.
